CoOp Presents bring you a heavyweight remix EP of EVM128's classic 'Gamma Riddim'.
It's been 5 years since Alex Phountzi & IG Culture first started dropping releases on their CoOp Presents imprint. So to tie in with that, the crew revisit a track which has become somewhat of a cult classic in dances throughout that period - EVM128's 'Gamma Riddim', which originally appeared on 'Selectors Assemble Vol.2' (the label's first official release from 2018, following an initial compilation EP on First Word Records).
5 years on, we have 5 brand new remixes of this tried and tested dancefloor filler. Label co-founder Alex Phountzi sets off the session with a skippy subby refix, whilst label partner IG Culture (LCSM / New Sector Movements) turns out a weighty bruk-dub piece, featuring fresh new vocals from Sticky Dub. Regular CoOp Presents crew Oliver Night delivers a tasty garage-tinged version, while Cengiz adds in some Detroit-esque rhodes stabs for his deeper rub. New to the crew, man of the moment in the UKG scene, Bakey, provides a super tough slab of brukstep, complete with a little jungle soundboy artillery in the mix. The original version from EVM128 (also Dance Regular label-boss, and a principle player of the Selectors Assemble crew) closes out the session, for those who slept.
IG and Alex decided to launch their CoOp Presents moniker in 2018, a label born out of the legendary CoOp club nights of the early 2000s. The aim was to provide a platform for an abundance of new music being passed their way. The duo have been continually active in the dance music scene for the past few decades, constantly working with producers and DJs, be they upcoming or legacy artists.
Over the past 5 year period, there's been releases from Danvers, Neue Grafik, Sivey, Risa T, Groove Chronicles, LCSM, Kuzco, Mitch von Arx, Reginald Omas Mamode IV and NameBrandSound, as well as the artists featured on this EP. There have also been two full compilations - 'Plug One' and 'They're Energised' - an album curated by 30/70 Collective's Allysha Joy, to showcase the Australian bruk scene. With more forward-thinking releases lined up already for 2023/2024, the label continues to go from strength to strength, in the spirit of the original West London broken beat movement, and has become a go-to for a wide range of prolific selectors.
This EP is no exception. Absolutely essential stuff that will never leave your crate.
